Isn’t it strange that almost every company with a piece of software, algorithm or analytics is now calling it AI. I don’t think it’s helpful in the industry to broad-brush and force a negative narrative. I attended an expo recently where a company was offering a digital twin solution. When looking under the bonnet it was nothing more than autocad data tables and a simple 3D representation. There will be a lot of mis-selling going on for the next few years. I recall the year 2000 bug and salesmen selling compliant kettles!

Thanks for reading and commenting, Kevin.

It's almost certain peculiar to those of us in the 'business', but looking at things through a risk lens seems like an occupational hazard. The question I am compelled to ask most when people talk to me about digital twinning is 'if we make a nice digital model, can we just not build the thing and save ourselves a pile of money and a whole bunch of environmental damage?'

Some parts of the world are getting up to speed with BIM but there are still a whole lot of places where we're still designing in 2D then catching up on the model in the as-builts - which invariably means that they're wrong... And so many people really hung up with antiquated ideas about the true purpose of BIM.

These are all in the pipeline of posts I am aiming to get pushed out on substack over the coming months.

Hope you keep reading!
